Introducing: Genre Grinder Cares

Like many of you, I’ve been feeling paralyzed by the state of the world. Then I remembered a time in 2016 when I made a small, itty bitty difference. My friend Phil Nobile Jr. and I had produced a They Live-themed T-shirt and…didn’t sell very many of them. Then we decided to announce that we would be donating all proceeds to the ACLU, at which point we sold out immediately.

So I think that is what I have to offer – raising money for charity by designing T-shirts and stickers themed around cult movies. With that in mind, I have two shirts and three stickers that are available print-on-demand through a new Genre Grinder Cares storefront on Fourth Wall and Printful.

  • All shirts are priced at $22 plus shipping, of which I get $10.50

  • All stickers are priced at $8 plus shipping, of which I get $5.80

  • All of my share of sales will be collected and given to charity.

In retrospect, my only regret is picking the ACLU, because I now know they didn’t need our meager funds (they made some choices I'm not fond of, but that's another story). This time, I’m taking to heart the classic idiom “Think Globally, Act Locally” and similar advice I’ve heard repeated over the last few months: don’t try to change everything at once – pick one cause and stick with it. While I do plan to change the charity of choice to meet the current needs (with notice, of course), I’m beginning this experiment by donating to Gender/Justice, a Minnesota-based mission to advance gender equality and protect LGBTQ+ people.

I’ve heard people referring to Minnesota as a trans refuge state, but that term is meaningless if we don’t actively support and protect them. From what I can tell, Gender/Justice offers the most substantial overall legal protections.

See their About Us page for more information or, if you think my designs suck, consider donating to them directly via this page.

Further information:

  • I have not, as of this writing, received my sticker samples, so, if the quality is subpar, please let me know.

  • These are not screen-printed shirts. That would require me to do a large print run and I don’t have the money to do that. Instead, they are print-on-demand shirts. The ink has a sort of thick, plasticy quality. It’s not bad, but, if you haven’t ordered merch from Youtubers before, you might be surprised.

  • The printer, Printful, ships out of Latvia, of all places. From order to arrival, it took about 15 days for my samples to arrive.

  • Fourth Wall will ship outside of the US.
